FABRICA: a hybrid experience of education, research and practice

FABRICA, Benetton’s communication center, offers young international creatives from all fields an alternative opportunity of cultural expression and learning. Since 1998 Vulpinari has been creative director of Visual Communication at FABRICA, that was founded in 1994 by Luciano Benetton and Oliviero Toscani.

Here he has directed projects for United Nations, International Council of Nurses, Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders, United Colors of Benetton, Coca-Cola, Istituto Luce, Vespa, Porsche, The New Yorker Magazine and much more. FABRICA’s visual communication work under his direction has been featured by major international press and dedicated exhibitions at the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, the National Museum of Arts and Traditions in Rome, the Vivid Gallery in Rotterdam, the GGG in Tokyo, the DDD in Osaka, the ZeroOne Design Center in Seoul. In the exhibition “FABRICA: Les Yeux Ouverts” it was featured at the Centre Pompidou in 2006, at La Triennale di Milano and the Shanghai Art Museum in 2007, at the Shiodomeitalia Creative Center of Tokyo in 2008. Omar Vulpinari will feature the institution’s philosophy and most important past and present projects.

Referent
Omar Vulpinari was born in the Republic of San Marino in 1963 and raised in the United States. He studied communication at the University of Bologna and graphic design at the Albe Steiner Center in Ravenna. From 1989 to 1997 he was art director for Dolcini Associati. Today he lives in Treviso, Italy. He is Vice President of Icograda (International Council of Graphic Design Associations).
Since 1998 Vulpinari has been creative director of Visual Communication at Fabrica. His independent work has been recently published by Taschen for a personal section in “Contemporary Graphic Design”. He teaches Fundamentals of Two-Dimensional Design at the University of the Republic of San Marino where he also curates the conference series “Graphic Design and Social Responsibility” and the “San Marino Design Week – Design Beyond Borders of Development”.
